These are familiar phrases to most of us, but how true are
they?
The reality is that our eyes are easily deceived. We often
see what we "expect" to see, based on previous experience or
logic. Our perception is affected by relationships to other objects,
movement and contrast. We 'see' things that aren't even there if their shape
and form is implied by adjacent items.
